Day Care
Our Day Care facility provides the opportunity for senior citizens from the community to enjoy friendly social interaction and support on a daily basis. The service also enables carers to continue to careat home, giving them some free time and relieving some of the stress of caring. It is a well loved and much valued local facility. The service runs Monday to Friday and we have space for up to ten clients daily. Each day consists of therapeutic activities, group discussions, interactive games, gentle exercise and is complemented by a two course home cooked lunch served in the dining room. Clients will also enjoy morning coffee and afternoon tea and in the summer months this can be enjoyed on the patio or in the summer house. The day centre in run by the Patient Activities co-ordinator who is supported by our dedicated volunteers, nursing staff and management team. People wishing to access this service should contact Vanessa Abson-Hicks (see contacts page) for more information.
In-Patient Care
Here at Tarporley we have seventeen in-patients beds. We are a nurse led unit but medical cover is provided by our five local General Practitioners (GP) practices with admitting rights. We admit patients from other hospitals but also direct from the community. Referrals can be made over the phone to Sister by a GP, Single Point of Access, discharge liaison or other members of the multidisciplinary team.
The main categories of admission are listed below:
Post Operative or Medical Rehabilitation
For example following orthopaedic, cardiac, bowel surgery or following an acute infection, or chronic conditional exacerbation e.g. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or Diabetes.
Medical Grounds
Sub-acute admissions from the community e.g. wound infections, Urinary Tract Infection’s, Chest infections, falls.
Intermediate Care
Avoid inappropriate admission to the acute sector; facilitate discharge planning for those who no longer need to be in hospital and to avert premature admissions to long term care.

All meals are prepared and cooked in the Hospital using fresh local ingredients and a varied menu ensures that most tastes are catered for. Mini Minor Injuries
The hospital does NOT have a fully equipped accident and emergency unit (A&E). It is staffed by the qualified nurses who are on duty for the in patients and is not a separate department.
We only deal with very minor injuries, and if you have any doubts or concerns about the seriousness of your injury, please go to your nearest A & E department or alternatively telephone the Hospital for
advice. We operate a 'walk-in' type service during normal working hours. Please note the doors are locked at night for staff safety but an intercom is available.
We will always aim to provide a triage service, offer advice and refer patients else where for a more detailed examination and treatment as appropriate.
Examples of what we can deal with include, minor cuts and abrasions, dog bites, epistaxis and minor burns.
