Our fundraising team was delighted to be involved in Ecoracing’s exciting Virtual Balloon Race. Participants were able to choose the shape, weight, colour, and design of their balloon before virtually launching them from Westminster Abbey on the 2nd of June. Although a virtual race, the balloons traveled just like real balloons and were affected by the weather conditions as well as their own design and construction. Each balloon cost £3, with money going towards our much-needed fundraising appeal. Participants were able to follow their balloons in real-time, with the winners being those whose balloon traveled the furthest by 9 June. The winner was Dewsbury Star which traveled more than 2,708km, ending up just off Greenland! We were delighted to have sold more than 534 balloons and to have raised more than £1,600 through this excellent and environmentally friendly initiative.
